If it’s one thing that we can all agree on, it’s that events are well and truly back in a big way. In our latest blog post, Breakwater’s founder and managing director Adele Slater discusses the different trends we’re likely to experience in 2023.
Events are ever-evolving
One of the main aspects of event planning that is often overlooked is that events are ever-evolving. Due to the nature of the industry and the UK’s turbulent economy, it isn’t easy to pinpoint the exact trends for 2023.
However, based on previous experience and evolving social trends, it is most likely that we will see some of the following trends develop over the next 12 months…
Return on investment
Of all the trends, achieving a return on investment is one of the most important at Breakwater. Now more than ever, it is essential that events are as financially robust as possible. There will always be ways to save on spending, such as booking venues and caterers in advance to avoid last-minute fees.
Still, one of the best ways to ensure a return on investment is to identify set objectives and measurable results at the beginning of the process. This could include online engagement, event bookings, ticket sales, on-the-day feedback, or post-event feedback.
Virtual and hybrid events
Rising to fame during the pandemic, virtual and hybrid events became the norm for 2020 and 2021. And although their popularity may have peaked, hybrid and virtual events are here to stay.
Introducing an online element to your event is great because it allows for greater flexibility and reach for attendees and organisers.
But it’s not for everyone. Before deciding the format of your event, it is crucial that you have a clear understanding of who your audiences are and what you are trying to achieve. If you are looking for a round table discussion or a more intimate event, the introduction of technology will likely have an adverse effect on the overall feel of your event.
Environmentally friendly
Throughout the UK, but especially in Aberdeen, we have noticed an increased interest in the sustainability of the products used throughout an event. This includes using eco-friendly materials as much as possible, introducing technology to cut back on print, and choosing venues and suppliers who promote sustainability.
Immersive experiences
Events that offer immersive and interactive experiences are becoming more popular, such as virtual and augmented reality experiences, escape rooms, and other interactive games. This type of event can be used to educate and inform your audience, incorporating your brand’s story through an interactive forum to build relationships with employees or customers.
Health and wellness
One of the biggest trends to emerge from the pandemic is the increased focus on health and well-being.
This trend has become increasingly popular through business events and events targeted at the general public. Whether it’s yoga and meditation, fitness classes, or health and nutrition workshops, we will continue to see more events promoting physical and mental well-being in 2023.
Social impact
As one of the core organisers of Celebrate Aberdeen, we are delighted to see a continued interest in businesses considering the social impact of their events. Taking some time at the planning stage, businesses have a keen interest in promoting diversity and inclusion in their events whilst supporting charitable causes where they can.
